VIDEO: CBS Airs Clip Of Ravens Coach John Harbaugh Trash-Talking Steelers After He Tells Them Not To
After a decent win over the Titans, Ravens coach John Harbaugh did a little post-game speech-ing in the locker room, as is customary. He took a second to throw some shade on the team's division rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who beat the Ravens down last week but lost to the lowly Jets today.
It was a startlingly candid comment, one that we wouldn't expect to hear from a coach, especially on national television. But Harbaugh probably felt comfortable enough to talk trash because he specifically looked into the camera and said "Strike that from the record books, okay?" before going in. Someone else even yelled "Edit that shit!" Recognizing a good TV moment when they saw one, CBS kept the cameras rolling, and then broadcast the clip during their post-game show.
Oooh, CBS, you in trouble! Watch:
The full transcript:
"That was a tough challenge. We have a team coming off a bye. You had a team in this room off a very physical Sunday night game. You know what I'm saying? Saw what happened on the other part of that, right? Strike that from the record books, ok? Is that NFL? Are you with us or them? Make sure that doesn't get... ("Edit that shit!") What I'm about to say doesn't get talked about, okay?. That team beat us last week, okay? All right? Then they went and got their [ass] kicked this week. This team was in the same game and went and got the job done this week. That's who you are. Those who you are. Congratulations."
Clearly, not a message meant for the national media to pick apart and for the Steelers to put on the bulletin board. The Ravens released a statement blasting CBS afterwards:
“The comments made by John Harbaugh in the locker room following today’s victory over the Titans were meant for Ravens players and coaches only,” Ravens Senior Vice President of Public and Community Relations Kevin Byrne said. “The CBS-TV crew that was in the locker room was told by Coach Harbaugh that it could not broadcast what he was about to say. When Coach Harbaugh finished talking about various things happening around the NFL and in the AFC North, he told the crew that it could now use what he was going to say. Inexplicably, CBS-TV then aired comments Coach Harbaugh specifically said were not to leave the locker room. CBS-TV immediately pulled the video and apologized to the Ravens.”
Indeed, CBS apologized publicly for airing the clip, but too little, too late. Sadly, the Steelers and Ravens don't play again this season, unless they both make the playoffs -- but at the moment, both teams are looking up at the Browns and Bengals in the NFC North.
