Where To Watch Maria Sharapova’s Inexplicably-Not-Shown-Live Wimbledon Semifinal
Note: the following is a bit of a rant on the Wimbledon women's semifinal between Maria Sharapova and Sabine Lisicki not being live on TV. If you want to watch it, go here. If you want to read a rant about, then watch it, see below.
Turn on ESPN2's Wimbledon coverage right now and you'll see a replay of yesterday's men's quarterfinal between Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Great match. Tsonga was amazing. We wrote about it here. And right now, it's not what anyone wants to see.
What they do want to see: the women's semifinal between Maria Sharapova - the highest-profile woman remaining in the tournament - and Sabine Lisicki. Unlike Federer-Tsonga, it's happening right now. And also unlike Federer-Tsonga, if you're looking for it on TV, it's nowhere to be found. It's not even on ESPN3, "due to rights." NBC, which has been carrying live Wimbledon action the past few days, isn't showing it live because...well, we're not sure.
And so right now, we've got a rerun on one TV Wimbledon coverage provider, and the fourth hour of The Today Show on the other (followed by an hour of "local programming" until NBC's coverage finally kicks in at noon). People are not happy about this, because...come on, guys. We should be seeing these matches live "due to rights" that you bought to show Wimbledon.
But for now, we're forced into alternative options. From Quickish, via SI's Bryan A. Graham, we present to you this site streaming the match. It's working well for us. We suggest you go there. Unless, you know, Hulk Hogan's ex-wife seems like a more interesting option.
