4 Takeaways From Rogue One’s International Trailers
There's been a lot of hubbub over leaving the country lately, and of course, the only reason I can even begin to think that's the case is the fact that several will countries will receive Rogue One: A Star Wars Story a few days before we in America do.
Several international trailers for the upcoming spin-off to the epic film franchise have recently surfaced, and they contain some new bits that we've covered for you here...
I Am Your Mother
We already knew the father of our main protagonist Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) would be playing a big role in this film, as once again we see scenes of her father Galen (Mads Mikkelsen) being taken away into forced Imperial servitude, as well as hear the revelation that Big Daddy Erso was the one who alerted the Rebels to the Death Star's formation. But details were mum on Jyn's mother, Lyra (Valene Kane), who finally shows up in the international segments, advising a young Jyn to "Trust the Force" and gifts her a rather unusual necklace. Given Mrs. Erso's Force-related advice...could this keepsake be a kyber crystal, best know for giving lightsabers their trademark power and glow?
Now I, like many, much enjoyed The Force Awakens, but it was missing a Star Wars trademark...space battles! All of our arial fights took place within the atmosphere in Episode VII, but it looks like we make a return among the stars for this one. We appears to have our brave Rebel pilots making a move on some sort of Imperial space base. Is it possible we could see cameos from fan favorite Rebel pilots like Wedge Antillies, Biggs Darklighter and Jek Tono Porkins?
Dark Side of the Death Star
We get the eerie, yet gorgeous, shot of the Death Star blocking out the sun...but this time, we actually see the
moon space station firing on what appears to be the rocky, Force-user sanctuary Jedha. Remember, the destruction of Alderaan was the first public display of the Death Star's power. Surely, the Empire would want to test things out, and it looks like Jedha could be our unfortunate victim.
Bah Gawd! That's Vader's Music!!!
We get a couple of seconds of new Vader footage in the international previews. Frankly, it's not much, but hey, the last time we got new Vader footage, it was the Dark Lord of the Sith yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOO!", so we'll take what we can get. In our new Vader clip, he appears to be making some sort of distinct hand motion. Because this is the internet, where we can't have nice things, the moment has already been turned into a meme, but what if something more sinister is at hand...perhaps Vader is administering his trademark Force-induced neck hugs? And if that's the case, who is the unfortunate victim? One of our heroes? Maybe our white clad Imperial official Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn)?
Rouge One hits USA theaters on December 16.
