Billy Crystal’s Classic ’15 Rounds’ From ’79 Is Best Muhammad Ali Tribute You Will Ever See
Billy Crystal gave a great eulogy for Muhammad Ali today, as expected, and during the short talk he referenced a one-man show he did in 1979 in honor of Ali's retirement at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, CA.
Entitled “15 Rounds”, it covered Ali's career from the knockout of Sonny Liston until the eve of his rematch with Leon Spinks. Crystal said that he "got lost" in the performance, and afterward didn't remember where he was. He finally snapped out of it backstage as he was being hugged by a crying Richard Pryor. It soon became a classic. Here it is:
During today's eulogy Crystal said that Ali always called him "Little brother." Here's how Crystal ended it:
"At his heart he was still a kid from Louisville who ran with the gods, walked with the crippled and smiled at the foolishness of it all. He is gone, but he will never die. He was my big brother."
