Bucket List, Complete: Bull Throws Man Against Tree, Then Gores Him To Death
Grown men taunting cattle is still considered sport in many Hispanic countries, where Pamplona-style running of the bulls events delight the moronic masses -- which often include, sadly, stupid U.S. tourists. One such event was held on Sunday in Santa Maria Tulpetlac, near Mexico City.
But here's the thing about taunting a frightened, 3,000-pound animal with horns -- sometimes you try to get up the next morning and can't, because you're too stiff. And by that we mean dead.
This unidentified Mexican man, 25, was running near the bull down a narrow street when the animal grew tired of his shenanigans and head-butted the guy into a tree. The bull then gored him in the stomach as he lay on the ground, killing him.
You see, animal cruelty is sometimes a two-way street. Here in the U.S., we quite literally have blood on our hands in this regard, what with the dog fighting and animal testing and lack of oversight in the meat processing industry. Some states actually have laws forbidding hidden videos that show cruel slaughterhouse practices, for instance.
But bullfighting is the most rank, despicable sort of animal torture, and it's celebrated as a sport in many countries. Animals at these running of the bulls festivals usually end up in the bullfighting ring, where they are slowly stabbed to death, often choking on their own blood. The fact that every once in a while the bull gets to take out one of these idiots does little to change the situation, as it actually increases the danger factor and makes other fools want to try it.
So if taunting livestock is your idea of a good time, just remember what Woody Allen said: "I don't want to live on in the hearts of my countrymen; I want to live on in my apartment."
