Jason Day Breaks Down In Tears After Making History AT PGA Championship
Jason Day finished at 20-under, yep, to win the PGA Championship today -- the first time someone has finished -20 in a PGA major. After putting out the 18th to finish Sunday's final round, Day acknowledged the crowd, cupped a hand over eyes and began to cry. He then was joined by his son, Dash, and wife on the green.
"I didn't expect I was going to cry," Day said at the awards ceremony. "A little emotion has come out because I've come so close so many times."
The 27-year-old Australian finished at 268 to beat Jordan Spieth by three shots and win his first major. He also made history, becoming the first player to finish at 20-under in a major.
Day was raised by a single mom after his father died when Jason was 12, and she sold their house so that she could afford to send him to golf school.
Spieth's effort vaulted him to No. 1 in the world. He went 53-under in his past three tournaments.
