John Daly On The One Time He Remembers Drinking During A PGA Event

ESPN has a "30 for 30" coming out on November 1 that probably should've dropped back in 2009 when the series first started, because let's face it: there's hardly a more interesting/entertaining/tragic/exciting topic in sports than that of one John Patrick Daly. Judging by the trailer, "Hit It Hard" looks poised to join the upper echelon of "30 for 30" documentaries, alongside "Rand University", "I Hate Christian Laettner" and their critically acclaimed mini-series "O.J.: Made in America".
Judging by the clip ESPN released Friday morning, it might end up being the best one yet.
The minute-long snippet from their upcoming profile of golf's wildest wünderkid reveals Daly's experience with [drumroll] drinking and golf. Ya, we know; who wouldda thunk a documentary about John Daly would include those two things, right? But this isn't just another predictably sad anecdote about being a semi-functioning not-so-semi-alcoholic -- it's a personal account of the one time Daly remembers actually drinking during a PGA event.
(Or at least the only time he "can remember.")
L.A. Open. Sometime in the 90s. Daly's "two or three over." Slams five beers in the locker room. Shoots four under par on the next nine holes.
"I finished strong."
Hey ESPN, you had me at "footage of John Daly riding around on a military-grade lawn mower crushing a cigarette," but this...THIS is some compelling stuff you've got here. Bravo.
