Oman Oman, OMG: Kid Hits Full-Court Shot At Buzzer To Win Game
It's the Austin (MN) High Packers at the Northfield (MN) High Raiders on Tuesday night, with Northfield ahead 55-53 with 1.6 seconds left in the game. Northfield is at the free throw line for two rather anti-climatic free throws ... or so it seems.
Coaching right to the end, Austin coach Kris Fadness called time out, and told his team that if Northfield missed both free throws, to just grab the ball and heave it. And that's what happened. The guy at the line missed both, and after the second miss, Austin's Oman Oman, a junior, grabbed the rebound and fired it the length of the court ... Austin wins, 56-55.
Sylvia Koenig, 13, of Northfield, captured the moment on her cell phone. USA Today:
“I was in shock,” Koenig said. “I mean I felt bad for our team, but we all couldn’t believe what happened.”
“Our fans went crazy, we ran onto the court. We were just in disbelief,” said assistant coach Josh McRae. “But it couldn’t have happened to a better kid.”
Oman is of Sudanese decent.
“He’s a good shooter and actually had a tough night, so to see that go in for him to end it was pretty crazy,” said Fadness.
