Shoutout to Mike Purvis, a 3-foot-8 senior at Notre Dame-Green Pond High in Bethlehem Township, near Easton, PA. Purvis scored his first career points last week during Notre Dame's Senior Night varsity boys' basketball victory over Palmerton, 65-50.
Look below and see if this doesn't make your day:
"It felt pretty good," Purvis said. "I was actually scared that it wouldn't go in because I wasn't hitting in warmups. But I took my time and nailed it on the first try."
Purvis was also on the football team as a non-playing captain:
Mike’s the heart and soul of our team. He really is,” running back Mitch Daniel told LehighValleyLive.com. “He gives us a pregame speech every week to get us fired up. Whenever we need motivation, we look to Mike because he would give anything to be out there with us, but he can’t.”
Sports, when played for all the right reasons, can be an uplifting, wondrous thing.
