Pedestrian Picks Worst Time To Cross Street In History Of Earth
July 20 / Rick Chandler / SportsGrid
With the finish line in sight and about 100 cyclists bearing down on it at the end of Stage One, a man just ahead of them decides that this would be a good time to cross the street. Because after all, he's in the crosswalk. What could go wrong?
It's the Tour De Qinghai Lake in Xining city, China, on Tuesday, which with the Tour de France taking a day off is the biggest game in town, cycling-wise. As you'll see in the videos below, a man is crossing the street and either doesn't look, or thinks that the cyclists will stop for him. What happens is the bikes slam into him and each other, causing a huge pileup with many riders suffering injuries ranging from scrapes to broken bones.
How they decided the winner of this stage is anyone's guess. All we know is that the pedestrian who caused it was arrested. We're also guessing that one or two riders tried to sneak by and win the stage (the race was stopped).
