Random Things To See On This Planet: Guy Surfs Waves On A Dirt Bike
Robbie Maddison said that he had a vision that he was surfing in the ocean on his dirt bike, after watching his wife on a paddleboard. And as it turns out, this is possible -- you just need special skis, a modified back tire, and it also helps to be from Australia, I suppose.
Maddison, a stunt driver from New South Wales, says it took him two years to modify the bike and perfect the stunt. He then went to Tahiti, because, as Lewis Black says, "Tahiti makes every other place look like a shithole." With the help of his sponsor, DC Shoes, he made the video seen below.
So of course he's the first person in history to surf in the ocean on a dirt bike. Although I totally think Benjamin Franklin would have done it if he'd had the time.

It seems to me that our military would have a huge interest in this. And if not, then certainly the James Bond film franchise. In fact, Maddison worked as a Daniel Craig stunt double in Skyfall. Maddison rode the bike for Craig in the rooftop motorcycle chase.
"I don’t think the photos or video show how physical it was," Maddison said. "You can’t see that when the wave broke right behind me, I honestly thought that might be the end of my life. I’ve never felt like I was in the wrong place at the wrong time more than I did right there."
