Ronda Rousey Announces Next Opponent On GMA
GMA, MMA...it's all the same, amiright? No? Ok, well it was on Friday morning, when Ronda Rousey came on the show to announce her next victim: Holly Holm at UFC 195 on January 2.
So much for interviewing a TV chef about how he makes scrambled eggs.
Holm joined the UFC in 2014 after a storied career in stand up boxing, becoming an 18-time world champion in three different weight classes with an overall record of 33-2 (with nine knockouts). She's been fighting MMA since 2011, during which time she's managed to win all nine of her bouts. Naturally, Holm is most comfortable on her feet throwing kicks and punches, a welcome change for people looking to see a Ronda Rousey fight that lasts longer than the time it takes her to walk to the octagon.
Rousey knows that she's got to convince UFC fans to cough up the $50 for another pay-per-view fight that could be over before it starts, which is why Holm makes sense as an opponent. She'll be in no rush to get on the mat, where Rousey routinely ends fights with submission holds.
"I prepare for a five-round war every time I get in there," Rousey told the Good Morning America crew. "No one's easy until after you beat them, and with Holly Holm, she's the type that is ready to go 12 boxing rounds. She's not the average chick that I fight. She's the best striker I've ever fought, and striking is something I learned much later in my career. So I don't ever expect fights to be easy and fast. No one knows exactly how the fights are going to go, and that's why everybody buys them."
