The Backwards Softball Bunt Looks Pointless And Stupid, But Apparently It Works

So this softball player appears to be from Juniata High School in Mifflintown, PA, where they teach the lost art of the backwards bunt. What makes this better or more effective than the regular bunt? Absolutely nothing -- until you read a couple of the comments on this Instagram post. Apparently the infielders just froze when the bunt went down, like so many Pennsylvania deer in the headlights.
As you can see below, there was no throw to first. So yeah, the tactic took the other team by surprise. Problems: you can only do this once, and it looks pretty hard to master.
