Here’s what I’ve said all along about Floyd Mayweather fighting Conor McGregor in a boxing match: the pre-fight hype is worth 10,000 times more than the fight itself.
If you dole out the money for pay-per-view for this mess then you’re a bigger fool than, hmm, oh let’s say the Knicks’ organization. But if they put the four pre-fight press conferences and the weigh-in on an affordable PPV, I’d seriously have to consider that.
And this trailer for the fight certainly helps. Hope this isn’t the last one:
A World Tour of press conferences begin on Tuesday, July 11th in Los Angeles, followed by July 12 in Toronto, July 13 in Brooklyn, and then July 14 in London.
The thing about McGregor is that his personality is ten times more entertaining than any fighter Mayweather has faced, and that includes Manny Pacquiao. It’s just a kick to listen to him — and if he decides to get up and spray Mayweather with a Super Soaker or some insane thing, all the better.
Unfortunately, unless Floyd decides to hold him up for a few rounds, the fight itself is going to be a disaster — like whomping on your little brother for taking apart your bike. But your little brother is also a mouthy little runt, and that makes it entertaining at least.
