Jesse Owens' story is a Hollywood wet dream. Triumph over institutionalized American racism? Check. World War II? Check. It's a small miracle that we've had to wait this long to see Owens' incomparably iconic existence in major motion picture form, hopefully because the story is so important whoever had the rights to it was waiting for the perfect script/director/actors to coalesce. From the looks of the trailer, producer/director Stephen Hopkins (Predator 2, Ghost In The Darkness) seems to have found a pretty solid mixture of talent.
Stephan James, Jason Sudeikis, William Hurt and Jeremy Irons star in the Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse screenplay "Race," which debuts February 19th (another good sign that it'll be worth watching). The trailer, below...
