The Three Miracles Of St. Peter: HS Teams Combine For 4 OTs, 3 Buzzer-Beaters
High school basketball playoff game of the year so far: Minnesota’s Waseca and Marshall high schools met on Thursday night in St. Peter, MN, with a trip to the state playoffs on the line. All that happened was that the game went four overtimes, both teams scored in triple figures, and there were four buzzer-beaters -- among them a heave from three-quarters court.
* Waseca was ahead 72-69 near the end of regulation when Marshall hit a 3 from the wing at the buzzer to send it to OT.
* It was 81-81 following the first OT, and 87-87 after the second.
* Ahead by two with one second remaining in the third OT, Marshall hit a free throw to go ahead by three. But Waseca's Nick Dufalt took the inbound pass, took a step, and then launched a shot from just outside his own 3-point line ... that hit nothing but net at the other end. Tie game. Fourth OT.
* It was 100-all when Marshall put on a full court press with 6 seconds remaining. Waseca's Cole Streich got free, received a pass, drove almost the length of the court and hit a pullup jumper at the buzzer for the 103-100 win. The victory gave Waseca a spot in the state AAA playoffs.
