Tim Tebow Fans Sputtering Mad That Rival Team Mocked Their Hero

  • Rick Chandler

Sure Tim Tebow can fling his bat deep into the stands, but some minor league opponents are finding that his slippery mitts are not entertaining enough.

During this weekend’s series with the Charleston River Dogs, Tebow was trolled relentlessly. Much of it wasn’t good-natured mocking, either. Which is awesome.

Yep, whenever a Columbia Fireflies player came to the plate, the scoreboard showed his photo with the words “Not Tim Tebow”, and added Tebow crying face in the background.

Tebow fans were not amused. This is the South, and since most of Tebow’s appeal is tied to religion, people get testy when they sense he’s being ridiculed.

In 60 South Atlantic League games, Tebow is hitting .224 with three homers and 21 RBI. That’s not promising by any stretch for a Single-A Rookie League player, but he seems to be having fun and he’s pulling in fans, so where’s the harm?

Here it is: It’s with self-righteous people who take things too seriously and see a war on religion behind every corner. Lighten up.
