True Things: In 2006 Sesame Street Did A Sketch In Which ‘Donald Grump’ Fired All The Brown Muppets
Yes, here's how Sesame Street predicted the current rise of Donald Trump, and the 2015-16 election cycle, way back in 2006.
They introduced a character named Donald Grump, who was apparently the leader of all the grouches (notably absent: Oscar), and had a frightful orange combover. At one point he fired poor Elmo, but more notably, something specific happened that translates clearly to today. See below.
You may ask, how does this predict the 2016 election? Isn't it just coincidence? Well, we think it's truly prescient. Examine the clues:
Grump is mean and disrespectful to a woman
In this case, Maria.
Grump deports the brown muppets
The first grouches he fires are the brown ones, naturally. How did Sesame Street predict this, nine years ago?
No defined proposal to reduce unemployment
Grump attempts to hire someone based on the number of fish that can fit into a bucket.
Appeals to the less intelligent voter
Such as Tea Partiers, and puppets that talk in fractured syntax.
Also note the obvious metaphors: Donald Grump's empire is built on trash; he promises trash for everyone, but in the end keeps it all for himself; and in the end, it's the other grouches who fire him.
It's as true today as it was when you were a kid: everything important that we've learned, we've learned from Sesame Street.
