VIDEO: Yankees Pitcher Bryan Mitchell Injured After Taking Line Drive To The Face
The Yankees endured a pretty scary moment on Monday night during the 2nd inning of their game with the Minnesota Twins when starting pitcher Bryan Mitchell took an unfortunately placed line drive by the Twins Eduardo Nunez directly to the face.
The contact knocked Mitchell violently off his feet and he stayed down but conscious as trainer Steve Donohue and another trainer rushed to the mound. Mitchell was able to stand and get walked off the diamond as he held a bloody towel to his face, and he received a standing ovation from his home crowd as he walked into the dugout.
According to ESPN.com there was no word at the time on his exact injuries, and he was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital for a full evaluation.
While baseball is generally not the most dangerous professional sport, when serious injuries do happen they are as terrifying and jarring as injuries can get. This is one of them. Please be advised that the videos below depict an injury that is graphic and may be unsettling for some viewers.
Keeping good thoughts for Bryan Mitchell.
