Watch A Guy Try To Snuff The Olympic Torch With A Fire Extinguisher
The Olympic Torch Relay is making its way across Brazil right now, with the flame headed toward Rio de Janiero only three weeks before the beginning of the Summer Games. The running of the Olympic torch of course honors the ancient Greek tradition of keeping a fire burning throughout the games to commemorate Prometheus' theft of fire from Zeus, to benefit mankind.
So of course now mankind wants to snuff it out. Last week someone tried to douse the flame by throwing a bucket of cold water on it. When that failed, on Wednesday a dude rushed the flame and tried to blast it with a fire extinguisher. That happened in the southern Brazil town of Joinville.
Olympic organizers have tried to have the torch relay visit as many countries as possible since the tradition was revived in the 1936 Games in Berlin, but since there were so many protests along the route leading up to the 2008 Games in Beijing, they've pretty much reduced the route to Greece and the home country in 2012 and 2016.
