Watch Conor McGregor Talk Shit To Urijah Faber On ‘The Ultimate Fighter’
Wednesday night's premiere of UFC's "The Ultimate Fighter 22: Team McGregor Vs. Team Faber" was supposed to be about the guys in the octagon. Supposed to. Don't get me wrong, most of the fights in episode one were really entertaining -- Ryan Hall's nifty little somersault leg-lock on Johnny Nunez, the wild openings in both rounds of Gonzalez-Welch, David Teymur's furious assault on Thibault Gouti -- but it was the back-and-forth between world number-one featherweight Conor McGregor and 36-year-old Urijah Faber that stood out the most.
As you might expect, McGregor talked circles around the American (the Irish seem pretty good at that), dissing his cleft chin while recounting how he beat Faber's buddy, Chad Mendes, back in July. Oh, and he promised to kick his ass were the UFC ever to "feed" Faber to him.
"They won't feed you to me," McGregor said across UFC president Dana White, producing an awkward silence that seemed to last 30 seconds.
Faber has responded, however indirectly, by saying today that McGregor didn't exactly fulfill his responsibilities as head coach of Team Europe during the six-week competition.
"He was there a little bit, but he wasn't hands-on," he said, adding, "I know he wasn't there for a lot of the practices."
"It's one of those things where, you don't really need to hold their hand, but, being there, that kind of makes sense."
Faber added that some of the guys on McGregor's team are headed to the UFC where they may eventually get a chance to fight him, implying that McGregor wasn't exactly eager to share his secrets with his future competition.
