Big news coming out of the college football world as the Big 10 announced they will be playing football this October. In the meantime, let us focus on conferences and teams that are playing in week 3 and look at some of the best bets of the week. All odds are brought to you by our friends at FanDuel.
#17 Miami Hurricanes at # 16 Louisville Cardinals
Odds: Cardinals -2.5, over/under 64.5
This ACC matchup features two ranked teams on primetime that should be very entertaining with lots of points. It was just last season when Miami rolled over Louisville 52-27 and their current star quarterback D’Eriq King was redshirting with Houston. The Hurricanes are coming off an impressive 31-14 win over UAB where they combined for 337 yards rushing against the Blazers. Stopping the run was not one of the Cardinals’ strength last season as they allowed over 206 rushing yards a game which ranked 112th/130 teams. Lastly, Miami was only an away underdog twice last season and in both cases they covered.
Best Bet: Miami +2.5
Austin Peay State Governors at #13 Cincinnati Bearcats
Odds: Bearcats -33.5, over/under 52.5
These two teams met back in 2017 in a competitive game with the Bearcats winning 26-14 giving Luke Fickell his first win as a Bearcat head coach en route to a four-win season. A lot has changed since then as Cincinnati is coming off back-to-back 11-win seasons and this team is loaded with talent especially on the defensive side of the ball where they return 76% of their production according to ESPN’s returning production chart. Cincinnati returns 3-year starter Quarterback Desmond Ridder who was banged up last year and is poised to have a big season in 2020. The Bearcats were one of the best teams in the country last year ATS as they were 9-5, covering 64% of the time. Their opponent Austin Peay does already have a couple games under their belt, most recently losing to Pitt 55-0 when the two teams agreed to shorten the quarters after halftime.
While the Bearcats were one of the best teams in covering the spread in 2019, it was a whole different story when it comes to covering the over. Cincinnati was just 3-11, covering the over in just 21% of their games. Luke Fickell likes to run the football and play defense like his mentors, Mark Dantonio and Jim Tressel.
Best Bets: Cincinnati -33.5, Under 52.5
Houston Cougars at Baylor Bears
Odds: Bears -3.5, over/under 61.5
Houston and Baylor just recently agreed to this game after positive COVID tests postponed their other matchups. Houston comes into the game returning the 3rd most production from a team that only won four games last season. On the other side is the Baylor Bears who are coming off an impressive season where they won 11 games and had a Sugar Bowl appearance. However, long gone is head coach Matt Rhule and they lost a lot from that 2019 team and only return 51% of their production which ranks 108th in the NCAA. A bright spot for Baylor is the fact they have their dual-threat senior quarterback Charlie Brewer back to lead an offense that averaged over 35 points per game last season. He gets a good matchup this week as Houston allowed over 288 yards passing last year which ranked 124th/130 teams. Brewer and Baylor were one of the best teams in the nation last season covering 64% of the time.
Best Bet: Baylor -3.5
