Do the Florida Gators deserve to be in the Top 10?
I’m a big proponent of on any given Saturday — anything could happen, especially in college football. If you’ve watched this year, we’ve seen some 20, 25-point underdogs win the ball game outright. It’s just been the landscape of college football. I don’t know if it’s due to the pandemic and the preparation in terms of the COVID environment and protocols, but that’s how it’s been.
Perception is always key. We always talk about the perception of teams, 8-0, 8-2, or 9-1, and all of a sudden, they’re great teams. But when you break it down from the statistics standpoint, who did they beat? Who did they lose to? When you do that, you get a better perspective that this team is good, but they’re not elite.
It’s unfortunate, but it’s the eye test that holds weight for the college football committee. The name recognition, Florida goes more in terms of the sponsorship and TV dollars than, let’s say, Coastal Carolina or Cincinnati for that matter.
