New York Knicks vs. Memphis Grizzlies Predictions and Picks
The Memphis Grizzlies will take on the New York Knicks at home on Monday night as both teams continue their march for a playoff seed. Teams are more likely to dictate the play and tempo when they’re at home, so I think we could be in for a fairly fast-paced game in this matchup. While New York has largely been a team that plays under the total, as evidenced by their 29-35 over-under mark, their offense has actually been much better of late with eight overs in their last ten games.
I doubt that New York exerted too much effort in the 122-97 win over the Rockets on Sunday night. In fact, they had three days of rest going into that game. They’ll play a Grizzlies team that carries a one-day rest advantage, but this will also be their third game in four days.
Fatigue could set in for the Grizzlies, and it’s often on defense when you have to move without the ball that teams are the most lethargic. That should benefit a Knicks team that is already playing much better basketball and with more confidence offensively.
Memphis is sixth in league with 104.4 possessions per game this season. When you consider the strong trends to the over in this matchup and, in particular, the fact that the total has gone over in 13 of their last 18 meetings, I think we’ll have a similar result in this game as well.
My model has roughly a three-point edge on the total, and it projects that we’ll be closer to 223 points compared to 219.5 points which is where the total currently sits at. That value is too good to pass up for, so I’ll look to lock in my action before it ticks up even higher.
The Pick: Over 219.5
