Vegas has been a favorite here for the last couple of years. They came up short last year against Dallas, but they’ve reloaded. They got Alex Pietrangelo from St. Louis to go on the backend; they have two goalies, which is going to be enormous. Look at how the schedule is set up with back-to-backs against the same teams. Having Robin Lehner and Marc-Andre Fleury in a shortened, compressed season is going to be a big advantage. The Golden Knights are 8.5-1 right now at FanDuel’s Sportsbook. That is not going to be that high when we get to playoff time. They will be one of the top favorites at maybe 3-1, 4-1, or 5-1 at most. You’re not getting these long odds again late in the season. Here is the other way you’ve got to go with these futures. Take a look at the teams in the Canadian division. One of them will be in the final four because of the structure this year, and there’s not a lot of good teams in there. Everybody’s going to over bet Toronto because of the star power they have, but the Maple Leafs will not come out of that division. One of these other teams, like Winnipeg, Calgary, or Vancouver, can get to the final four. These teams have great odds to win the Cup. Vancouver is sitting at 40-1 and is a good young team that added a veteran goalie in Braden Holtby. Winnipeg is a team built for the playoffs. Big, strong lineup and they are 48-1. Tremendous value with the Calgary Flames sitting at 33-1. These are good shots to take at these long odds. They might not win it all, but when you get into a kind of situation with an easier path to the final four, there will be some great hedge opportunities down the road.
