BRENDAN GALLAGHER IS A SLEEPER IN DAILY PLAY THURSDAY
A lot of Fantasy players either set daily lineups, or play in daily Fantasy leagues such as Draft Kings, Fantasy Feud, etc. During the course of the season, on the busiest days in The Association, we'll have a short and sweet blog to help guide you with your lineup decisions.
For Thursday, April 4, there are 10 games in the NHL. The New Jersey-Boston (7:00pm ET, NHLN), Detroit-Phoenix (10:00pm ET, NHL) and Minnesota-Los Angeles (10:30pm, NHLN) games will be televised nationally.
THREE SLAP SHOTS
Marian Gaborik, RW, Columbus (at NAS): The Blue Jackets sent a private plane to shuttle Gabby to Nashville for Thursday's game. He is expected to be plugged onto the team's top scoring line in his team debut. As such, Gaborik is a nice addition in daily Fantasy formats such as DraftKings.com.
Brendan Gallagher, C/RW, Montreal (vs. WPG): Gallagher has different position eligibility depending on the daily Fantasy site you play. He has been hot lately, lighting the lamp in three of his past seven games. He also has six goals and 13 points over his past 16 outings. In the first meeting with Winnipeg Jan. 29, he had a goal, assist and plus-2 rating.
Jimmy Howard, G, Detroit (at PHO): Howard is a sharp play in this one, as the Red Wings have posted a 21-6-3 record in their past 30 trips to Glendale. They're also 38-13-6 in the past 57 meetings against the Coyotes, and they have won five of their past six road contests. He is relatively cheap considering Detroit's recent dominance in this series.
THREE BROKEN STICKS
Dustin Byfuglien, D, Winnipeg (at MTL): Byfuglien is normally one of the more dependable rearguard in daily Fantasy leagues like DraftKings.com. However, he has gone scoreless in each of his past four games with a minus-7 rating during the unimpressive stretch. He should be avoided, as there are plenty of more certain options on the board.
Jeff Carter, C, Los Angeles (vs. MIN): Carter potted a goal in the last meeting with the Wild in St. Paul March 30, but he is scoreless in five of his past eight outings, and nine of his past 13 games. As such, his salary is a bit out of line for the type production he has has over the past month.
Keith Yandle, D, Phoenix (vs. DET): Yandle lit the lamp twice in Tuesday's victory against Los Angeles, and he has five points over his past five games with a plus-5 rating during the span. However, the hot play has pumped up his salary, and he'll have a difficult time meeting or exceeding salary expectations. The Red Wings dominate against the Coyotes, and the goals should be at a premium Wednesday evening.
OTHER (updated 4/4/13 - 10:42at ET)
According to FOXSportsNorth.com, Minnesota Wild RW Dany Heatley (undisclosed) will be OUT Thursday, and head coach Mike Yeo indicated Heater will be "out a while." For Fantasy purposes, if you used him in DraftKings.com, swap out Heatley for teammate RW Devin Setoguchi, who is the same price at $4,300. As far as the newly acquired RW Jason Pominville, he was scheduled to fly out to Los Angeles to meet his new team, but it's very uncertain if he will debut Thursday. I'd lean no, but he's a hockey player, and we all know hockey players have dealt with much more and played.
