CARLOS BELTRAN IS A MUST-PLAY IN DAILY LEAGUES SATURDAY
A lot of Fantasy players either set daily lineups, or play in daily Fantasy leagues such as Draft Kings, Fantasy Feud, etc. During the course of the season, each day in Major League Baseball, we'll have a short and sweet blog to help guide you with your lineup decisions. And, in the late afternoon/early evening on busy nights in MLB, we'll have an updated blog with injury news, lineup changes, etc. to help you set the best possible lineup and pad your bank account.
For Saturday, April 27, there are 15 games in Major League Baseball. The Atlanta-Detroit, Cincinnati-Washington and Philadelphia-N.Y. Mets (1:05pm ET, FOX) game will be televised nationally/regionally (check your local listings). The Cleveland-Kansas City (7:10pm ET) game is also available free on MLB.com.
(DraftKings.com salaries in parentheses)
Weather could interrupt the game between the Pirates and Cardinals, as wet stuff remains in the area for the afternoon into the evening in St. Louis. There is also a slight chance of showers in the Chicagoland area for the evening hours, but it remains to be seen whether or not the game between the Rays and White Sox will be affected. Still, it's worth noting.
Pittsburgh at St. Louis 4:15pm ET (70 percent chance of rain)
Tampa Bay at Chicago White Sox 7:10pm ET (30 percent chance of showers)
...other than that, everywhere else has a 20 percent chance, or less, for rain.
THESE NINE SHOULD SHINE
Pedro Alvarez, 3B, Pittsburgh ($3,800 at STL): Alvarez will be licking his chops with St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook ($7,500) on the hill. He has managed 11 hits in 19 career at-bats (.579) with two doubles, two homers and eight RBI in his career against the St. Louis veteran, posting a 1.600 OPS during the span.
Carlos Beltran, OF, St. Louis ($4,500 vs. PIT): Beltran has posted 10 hits in 33 career at-bats (.303) with a double, two homers and 10 RBI in his career against Pittsburgh Pirates SP A.J. Burnett ($9,300). He is a nice start at this price level.
Ryan Howard, 1B, Philadelphia ($3,900 at NYM): Howard has had his way against New York Mets SP Shaun Marcum ($8,300), going 4-for-8 with three home runs, seven RBI and three walks with just one strikeout. That's good for a .636 on-base percentage, 1.625 slugging percentage and 2.261 OPS.
Andrew McCutchen, OF, Pittsburgh ($5,000 at STL): 'Cutch' has posted nine hits in 22 at-bats (.409) with two doubles, one RBI and four walks against Westbrook, which is good for a .500 slugging percentage and 1.000 OPS.
Miguel Montero, C, Arizona ($4,600 vs. COL): Montero has piled up five hits in 11 at-bats (.455) with a solo home run, .727 slugging percentage and 1.182 OPS in his career against Colorado Rockies SP Jeff Francis ($6,400).
CC Sabathia, SP, N.Y. Yankees ($11,900 vs. TOR): Sabathia has been dominant against the Toronto Blue Jays since the start of the 2010 season, going 5-1 with a 2.45 ERA in seven starts, including a complete game. He has 51 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings while giving up just two homers during the span.
Mike Trout, OF, L.A. Angels ($5,500 vs. SEA): Don't be dissuaded from using Trout because he is facing Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez ($12,000). The Angels' sophomore is 10-for-24 (.417) lifetime with a double, triple, home run and eight RBI, which is good for a 1.090 OPS against King Felix.
Mark Trumbo, 1B/OF, L.A. Angels ($4,000 vs. SEA): Trumbo has had a measure of success against King Felix, going 8-for-28 (.286) with two homers and six RBI. Of course, he has 10 strikeouts during the span, too, so be careful.
Jayson Werth, OF, Washington ($4,300 vs. CIN): Werth is hitting .400 (6-for-15) with a double, home run, two RBI and three walks with two strikeouts in his career against Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake ($8,000).
THESE NINE WON'T BE FINE
J.P. Arencibia, C, Toronto ($3,900 at NYY): Arencibia will face New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia ($11,900) in a very difficult road matchup. He has managed just two hits in 16 career at-bats (.125) with no extra-base hits, one RBI, no walks and two strikeouts against Sabathia.
Mike Aviles, 3B/SS, Cleveland ($3,800 at KC): Aviles has had no success whatsoever against Kansas City Royals SP Ervin Santana ($7,800), going hitless in 10 at-bats with no walks and two strikeouts.
Jose Bautista, OF, Toronto ($5,500 at NYY:) Bautista has hit many pitchers well in recent years, but Sabathia is not one of them. Joey Bats has just one hit in 19 career at-bats against Carsten Charles with no RBI, four walks and eight strikeouts. That's good for just an .053 batting average and weak .270 OPS.
Asdrubal Cabrera, SS, Cleveland ($4,800 at KC): Cabrera has posted just five hits in 28 at-bats (.179) with two doubles, a triple and six RBI with two walks and five strikeouts in his career against Santana.
David Freese, 3B, St. Louis ($3,800 vs. PIT): Freese is hitless in seven career at-bats against Burnett with no walks and three strikeouts.
Joe Mauer, C, Minnesota ($4,400 vs. TEX): Mauer has struggled in his career against Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland ($8,600), going 3-for-14 (.214) with a double, two RBI, two walks and three strikeouts. He hasn't been horrible, but he certainly isn't worth a high-end salary.
Carlos Santana, 1B/C, Cleveland ($4,800 at KC): Santana has managed two hits in 11 career at-bats against Santana, which is a .182 average, .250 on-base percentage and .273 slugging percentage. Avoid.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS, Colorado ($4,800 at ARI): Tulowitzki is hitless in six career at-bats against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Wade Miley ($8,700) in his career with two walks and a strikeout. It's best to go another way at this price level with that type of production.
Jake Westbrook, SP, St. Louis ($7,500 vs. PIT): Westbrook has been horrendous against the Pittsburgh Pirates, going 1-7 with a 5.91 ERA in nine starts since the start of the 2010 season. He has walked 21 batters over 53 1/3 innings during the span, and the Bucs are hitting a collective .317 against him. Ouch.
