SO YOU WANT A BIG TICKET ITEM?
Anton Khudobin, G, Carolina ($7700 vs CLB): Khudobin has taken over the starting goaltender duties in Raleigh and he is not looking back. He is 7-3-0 with a 2.17 Goals-Against Average (GAA) over his past 10 games (nine starts) with a .927 save percentage. He has actually been even better at home, going 5-2-0 with a 1.95 GAA in eight games (seven starts), while posting a 2.49 GAA on the road. Look for big things from Khudobin.
Eric Staal, C, Carolina ($7200 vs CLB): Staal had a goal last time out against Ottawa Saturday, and he has piled up three goals with 12 points, a plus-6 rating and 10 penalty minutes (PIM) over his past 10 games. That's good for an average of 3.6 Fantasy points per game. Staal carries a five-game points streak into play.
Alex Stalock, G, San Jose ($7600 vs LAK): Stalock is the projected starter against the Kings. He is 6-2-0 with a 1.68 GAA with a .935 save percentage over the past 10 games (seven starts). He has two shutouts during the span, helping him to a solid 4.9 Fantasy points per game.
If you spend big up top, you're going to need some fillers to bring down your average per player salary. Check out these steals from the bargain bin:
Chris Kunitz, LW, Pittsburgh ($6200 vs BUF): Rarely, if ever, is Kunitz in the minus for daily Fantasy players, even if he is scoreless. That's because he loves to hit, and he does well in the plus-minus category. Over the past 10 games, he has four goals with six assists with a plus-4 rating, four PIM and 23 hits for an average of 3.2 Fantasy points per game. Against the Sabres, Kunitz should have a strong night.
Thomas Vanek, LW, N.Y. Islanders ($6900 vs BOS): Remember him? Vanek got off to a really slow start with his new team, but he has heated up lately. Over his past 10 games, the Austrian has four markers with seven helpers and a plus-3 rating, good for 3.7 Fantasy points per game.
Christopher Tanev, D, Vancouver ($3200 vs EDM): Tanev can help daily Fantasy owners despite the fact he has just one goal and one assist with a minus-1 rating over the past 10 games. That's because he has 24 blocked shots during the span, and 11 SOG, averaging 2.1 Fantasy points per game. That's not great production, but it is solid at this price level. He should be active Monday, and he could do well in plus-minus, too, in a very favorable matchup.
James Wisniewski, D, Columbus ($4600 at CAR): Wisniewski laid a bit of an egg last time out, going scoreless with a minus-3 rating. Still, he has been a solid low-end buy lately, and you should roll with him again. He has two goals with 10 points and 10 hits over the past 10 games, averaging 3.3 Fantasy points per game.
