Daily Fantasy: UFC Fight Night 60 Picks
UFC Fight Night 60 is set for Saturday, Feb. 14 from Broomfield, Colo., and there will be no love lost on this Valentine's Day. The main event will feature a welterweight clash between Benson Henderson and Brandon Thatch. If you go by Vegas odds, five of the 11 matches have favorites of -170 or less, meaning that we should see a handful of close battles with very few bouts dominated by one fighter.
In other news, Hector Lombard failed his drug test, testing positive for an anabolic steroid after his UFC 182 bout in Las Vegas Jan. 3. His UFC 186 bout scheduled for April 25 against Rory MacDonald has been terminated. The UFC is looking for another opponent for MacDonald. In addition, Lombard's victory against Joshua Burkman, while it will not change Daily Fantasy results, is likely to be corrected from a win to a no-contest.
In more positive news for UFC 186, flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson (21-2-1) will look for a sixth title defense when he squares off against Kyoji Horiguchi in the octagon in Montreal. That fight is impressive enough, but we'll also get the bantamweight bout between TJ Dillashaw and Renan Barao, so UFC fans and Daily Fantasy players will certainly want to circle April 25 on the calendar. It is shaping up like a tight card.
Lastly, Georges St. Pierre (knee) said this week his left knee is fully healed after surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and he is looking to get back into action, but did mention concerns about the drug problems in UFC.
At Kountermove, you pick a roster of five players with a salary cap of $25,000. Here are a handful of guys you'll love on this Valentine's Day, hopefully helping you recoup some of that money spent on flowers, candy or dinner to avoid your own battle in the octagon.
Ray Borg ($5100 vs Chris Kelades): Borg is a giant favorite (-700) to win his match against Kelades. He has a 7-1 career record, and five of his victories have come via submission, including a win at UFC Fight Night 44 in his most recent bout against Shane Howell on June 28, 2014. Borg's opponent, Kelades, is rather untested, winning eight of his nine bouts, although he hasn't really faced any premium opponents. The Canadian Kelades has gone the distance in each of his past three bouts, a stark contrast to Borg's quick fights.
Max Holloway ($5200 vs Cole Miller): Holloway heads into Saturday's match with four straight victories since his last setback against Conor McGregor at UFC Fight Night 26. A loss against McGregor is certainly nothing to be ashamed about. Since, Holloway has atoned with three wins by KO/TKO in his past four fights, including a first-round victory against Akira Corassani last time out Oct. 4, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 53.
Neil Magny ($5300 vs Kiichi Kunimoto): Magny has been on a roll, winning his past five bouts. He last suffered defeat at UFC Fight Night 31 on Nov. 6, 2013 in a unanimous decision against Seth Bacynski. Magny (-650) is a heavy favorite to defeat fellow welterweight Kiichi Kunimoto despite the fact he comes in on a seven-bout win streak.
BARGAIN and MID-LEVEL PLAYS
Michel Prazeres ($4600 vs Kevin Lee): Prazeres comes in with an 18-1 record with eight wins by submission. His last bout against Mairbeck Taisumov went the distance, and he was a unanimous winner at UFC Fight Night 38. He has wins against Taisumov, Jesse Ronson and Leandro Silva, going 3-1 in his past four bouts. That's an impressive resume, and the fact he is an underdog is a bit surprising. He is a nice value play for Daily Fantasy players, one of the best low-end plays to take if you want to squeeze three heavy hitters into your lineup.
Patrick Walsh ($4700 vs Dan Kelly): Walsh is favored (-170) in this match, yet he comes with a low price tag. That makes him a must-play Daily Fantasy option. Walsh last fought on July 6, 2014, winning a unanimous decision against Daniel Spohn at TUF 19. This will be his first appearance on UFC Fight Night, and he meets the southpaw Kelly, who is 8-0. He has just one UFC Fight Night bout under his belt, so both of these opponents are rather untested. Walsh is 11 years younger, and 'The Beast of the East' will get it done in this one.
