Daily Fantasy: UFC on FOX 14 picks
UFC on FOX 14 is set for Sunday, Jan. 25 at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, and the main event features a bout between Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson in a light heavyweight bout.
In other news, Uriah Hall and Paddy Holohan drew potential six-month suspensions as a result of injuries suffered during UFC Fight Night 59. Hall suffered a right knee injury in his win, while Holohan banged up his left ankle in his victory. Both will be required to obtain doctor's clearance for their potential injuries or be forced to sit out six months.
At DraftKings, you pick a roster of five players with a salary cap of $50,000. Here are a handful of guys you'll love.
(DraftKings.com salaries in parentheses) (all times ET).
Gegard Mousasi ($11600 vs Dan Henderson): Mousasi is one of the biggest favorites on the board Saturday, and 'The Dreamcatcher' will be a nightmare for Henderson. While Mousasi has dropped two of his past three bouts, they came at the hands of Ronaldo Souza at UFC Fight Night 50 as a result of a guillotine choke, and a unanimous decision loss in a bout with Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 36. There is certainly no shame falling to Machida in Brazil and a hostile crowd cheering on their countryman against Mousasi. He'll be more in his element in Sweden, and he is facing a 44-year-old Henderson, who has dropped four of his past five bouts. This one will be ugly.
Albert Tumenov ($10400 vs Nico Musoke): As dominant as Tumenov has been, it is surprising he isn't a bigger favorite. He is 14-2 in his career, and his only loss came Feb. 15, 2014 when he lost a split decision to Ildemar Alcantara at UFC Fight Night 36. Over his past 10 bouts, nine have ended in KO/TKO.
BARGAIN and MID-LEVEL PLAYS
Sultan Aliev ($9700 vs Kenny Robertson): If you're searching for a mid-level play with some upside, Aliev is your man. He'll square off against Kenny Robertson in what is essentially a coin-flip bout. He has won four straight bouts by KO/TKO, and only one of those four matches has made it out of the first round. The welterweight is 13-1 with 10 KO/TKO in his career, but this is his biggest test to date.
Anthony Johnson ($8800 vs Alexander Gustafsson): Johnson is a decisive underdog, but don't be surprised to see him go the distance and force a decision against Gustafsson. Johnson enters with an eight-bout win streak, last tasting defeat Jan. 4, 2012 at UFC 142 against Vitor Belfort. Of his 18 victories, he has 12 wins by KO/TKO, including five of his past seven wins. There is value here, win or lose, so Daily Fantasy owners will certainly get their money's worth.
Stanislav Nedkov ($9400 vs Nikita Krylov): The Bulgarian Nedkov lost by KO/TKO against Tom Watson at UFC on FUEL TV 7 Feb. 16, 2013 in his last bout, so he is a bit of an unknown heading into this one. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate and posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee which required surgery. He might be rusty, and he might resemble the fighter who started his career 12-1. At this low-level price, he has a ton of upside for Daily Fantasy players as long as he isn't too tentative with his knee.
