Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt (rest) is out of the lineup Friday against the Pirates. It is believed to be a scheduled day of rest, as he has no known injury, but it is a curious lineup since the D-Backs are facing a right-handed pitcher. In any event, C-1B Jordan Pacheco ($6600) gets a start at first base and he bats sixth.
Orioles 1B Chris Davis ($9350) (flu) is back in the lineup after a couple of days off under the weather. It might be a good idea to avoid him until he proves his strength and stamina are back to 100 percent.
BOSTON RED SOX
The Red Sox placed OF Shane Victorino (back) on the 15-day disabled list this afternoon due to a lower back ailment. The move is retroactive to July 31. OF Yoenis Cespedes is not yet in town to make his debut, but he'll benefit from Victorino being sidelined. ... 1B-OF Allen Craig ($6550) is in the lineup for his Boston debut, and he might get off to a good start with his new team. He is 7-for-11 (.636) with three doubles, two homers, six RBI and an amazing 2.091 OPS against New York Yankees SP Chris Capuano. Granted, it's just 11 at-bats of history, but that's pretty impressive nonetheless. ... 1B-OF Mike Carp ($5550) was designated for assignment, not that you were likely to use him anyway. ... 3B Will Middlebrooks ($6450) is back from the 15-day disabled list, and he starts at the hot corner with SS-3B Xander Bogaerts ($7500) back at shortstop following the departure of SS Stephen Drew to the New York Yankees. ... OF Mookie Betts ($5000) is back up from Triple-A Pawtucket, and he gets the start in center field, batting in the ninth spot. Against Capuano, Betts might surprise.
Reds OF Jay Bruce ($7700) (personal) is back from the bereavement list and starting Friday. He bats in the two-hole in Miami, and could be an attractive mid-level play.
Indians OF Chris Dickerson (knee) is sidelined Friday after leaving Thursday's game due to some discomfort in his left knee. OF Ryan Raburn ($5950), who always makes an adventure out of playing left field, bats ninth and plays left.
Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett (finger) was scratched from the lineup with a left index finger injury, so 2B-OF Elian Herrera ($5000) slides into the lineup. Normally, he might be an attractive last-minute option with a minimal salary, but he is facing St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright ($21350), so no. ... One guy who has hit Waino well over the years is Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez ($7900). He is a lifetime .380 hitter against Wainwright, and he is hitting .392 with eight homers and 28 RBI in the past 28 games against Cardinals pitching.
Twins 2B-SS Brian Dozier ($9250) (thumb) is back in the starting lineup after missing one game due to swelling in his thumb. However, it might be a good idea to continue avoiding him coming back from an injury, albeit a minor one, especially since he faces Chicago White Sox stud LHP Chris Sale ($22350).
NEW YORK YANKEES
Former Red Sox SS Stephen Drew ($6800), traded Thursday at the deadline, starts against his former team Friday. While he is not available to use in most Daily Fantasy leagues at second base, that's where he starts in place of 2B Brian Roberts, who was designated for assignment.
Phillies OF Domonic Brown (rest) is out of the lineup for a third straight game, as apparently he is now in manager Ryne Sandberg's ever-growing doghouse. OF Grady Sizemore ($6500) makes another start in left field, batting in the sixth spot. That's an attractive spot in the order behind OF b ($8050), who remains in town despite rampant trade rumors before the deadline.
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
The San Francisco Giants purchased the contract of INF Matt Duffy from Double-A Richmond, and he is starting at second base Friday. He might not be available from most Daily Fantasy providers. However, if available, he bats in the two-hole and should come with a minimal price.
Nationals SS Asdrubal Cabrera ($7350) makes his team debut, and he'll start at second base, although most Daily Fantasy providers won't have him eligible there just yet. Cabrera goes off in the seventh spot against a familiar face, Philadelphia Phillies SP Roberto Hernandez ($10200). The two were teammates in Cleveland. Manager Matt Williams told The Washington Post Cabrera will get a majority of the starts at second base, just for future reference.
