FRIDAY’S PRE-GAME DAILY FANTASY UPDATE
The weather in the state of Missouri doesn't look as threatening as it did earlier this morning, but the status of the Cleveland Indians vs. Kansas City game is still a bit of a question mark. There are scattered showers and storms all throughout the metropolitan Kansas City, stretching back into eastern Kansas. The showers are moving eastward, and appear to be rather hit or miss. The whole game could be played in Kansas City without interruption, or there could be several delays and/or a postponement. It is just too risky for Fantasy purposes.
As far as St. Louis, it appears the weather is staying off to the south and west of the metropolitan area. The game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals 'should' be fine. However, we've included interactive radar links for both Kansas City and St. Louis, so you can make your own determinations.
BOSTON RED SOX
OF Shane Victorino (back) remains sidelined after aggravating his back injury mid-week on a swing. OF Daniel Nava ($4,000) gets another start, playing right field, with OF Jonny Gomes ($3,900) getting the nod in left. Gomes should be avoided, however, as he is just 4-for-23 (.174) lifetime against Houston Astros SP Erik Bedard ($8,600). Nava has never faced Bedard. 2B Dustin Pedroia ($5,300) has a high salary, and he bats in the three-hole tonight, but he has just one hit in 14 career at-bats (.071) against Bedard. Avoid.
SS Asdrubal Cabrera ($4,800) (quadriceps) is back in the starting lineup for Friday's game in Kansas City. He missed a pair of games, and perhaps the rest will do him some good. He was really scuffling before the ailment. Since he is just 5-for-28 (.179) with two doubles, a triple, six RBI, two walks and five strikeouts lifetime against Royals SP Ervin Santana ($7,800), it is probably best not to bother with Cabrera, especially at such a high salary.
NEW YORK METS
Manager Terry Collins has shaken up his order, dropping 1B Ike Davis ($4,100) down to the seventh spot, while moving 1B/2B Daniel Murphy ($3,800) to the three-hole. The change is mostly due to recent performance, and not really matchup history. Davis is just 4-for-19 (.211) lifetime against Philadelphia Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick ($7,100). Of course, Murphy is only 3-for-17 (.176) with no RBI against the Phils' hurler. Both should actually be avoided for Fantasy purposes tonight.
NEW YORK YANKEES
1B/3B Kevin Youkilis (back) is sidelined yet against due to his ailing back. 1B Lyle Overbay ($3,700) gets another start at first base, and he will bat eighth ahead of DH Ben Francisco ($3,400). Overbay is actually 3-for-7 (.429) with an RBI and a strikeout in his career against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Laffey ($5,000).
OF Ben Revere (quadriceps) is nursing a sore quadriceps, and he is out for a second straight contests. With Revere on the shelf, OF John Mayberry Jr. ($3,700) gets a shot in center field, and might be a nice mid-level Fantasy option. He is 4-for-11 (.364) with a double, two homers and six RBI lifetime against New York Mets SP Dillon Gee ($8,300).
TAMPA BAY RAYS
OF Desmond Jennings (rest) is out of the lineup Friday at Chicago White Sox, as he gets his first scheduled day off this season. OF Sam Fuld ($4,300) gets a start in center field against SP Jake Peavy ($9,700). He has made just one plate appearance in his career against Peavy, drawing a walk. OF Matt Joyce ($4,400) slides up to the leadoff spot of manager Joe Maddon's batting order. Joyce is 0-for-3 lifetime against Peavy with one strikeout. 2B/OF Ben Zobrist ($5,500) is 4-for-7 with two doubles, a home run and two RBI in his career against Peavy. SS Yunel Escobar (hamstring) is out of the lineup again, missing his second straight game due to a tight hamstring, so Zobrist starts against at shortstop.
