SO YOU WANT A BIG TICKET ITEM?
Ben Bishop, G, Tampa Bay ($8800 vs OTT): Bishop gets a crack at his former team, and the Senators might be having a little bit of seller's remorse. Bishop is 14-5-1 with a 2.03 Goals-Against Average (GAA) with a .932 save percentage and two shutouts. He won his only start against the Senators last season, allowing two goals on 33 shots. The home team has won seven of the past nine games in this series, and the Senators are just 2-9 in their past 11 games against a team with a winning record. In addition, Tampa Bay is 7-1 in their past eight home games. It bodes well for Bishop and his potential Fantasy owners.
If you spend big up top, you're going to need some fillers to bring down your average per player salary. Check out these steals from the bargain bin:
David Backes, C, St. Louis ($6900 vs NYI): Backes is a good bet to record at least one point, and perhaps multiple points. The Islanders have allowed 96 goals, which is the most in the Eastern Conference, and second-most in the NHL. Backes enters play with three assists and a plus-1 rating over the past two games, and four goals with 12 points over his past 10.
Duncan Keith, D, Chicago ($5800 at MIN): Keith carries an eight-game points streak into play, posting 10 assists with a plus-7 rating during the impressive span. He has at least 3.4 Fantasy points in six of his past seven games, making him an essential play.
Gabriel Landeskog, LW, Colorado ($6100 at EDM): The Oilers are the only team in the NHL this season to allow over 100 goals already. Landeskog should add to that total, as he has goals in each of his past two goals with a total of four points and a plus-2 rating. He is good for at least 2.5 Fantasy points in six of his past 10.
Eric Staal, C, Carolina ($5600 at NSH): Staal has caught fire for the Hurricanes lately, posting three assists with a plus-1 rating over his past two outings, and three goals with 12 points over the past 10. He also hasn't had a negative plus-minus rating over his past six outings.
Patric Hornqvist, RW, Nashville ($4700 vs CAR): Hornqvist enters with back-to-back games with an assist and plus-1 rating, and he has five or more Fantasy points in four of his past eight. He is a cheap source of Fantasy points at a position that is surprisingly not that deep on this night.
Teddy Purcell, RW, Tampa Bay ($3100 vs OTT): Purcell has plenty of scoring ability, but he has been struggling lately. He is scoreless in his past two games with a minus-2 rating, but just four games removed from a two-goal, three-point and plus-3 outburst Nov. 25 against the New York Rangers. If he can just pick up a point and avoid a negative plus-minus rating, he will more than pay for himself.
