Mario Balotelli, F, Italy ($20.50 vs England): Balotelli said a lot of things before this World Cup. One, he wants to establish himself as the No. 1 striker on the planet at the World Cup. And, he also stated how much better Italy is than England. If he works as hard on the pitch as he works his mouth, he is going to be an awesome Fantasy option. Balotelli is one of the most electric players in the world.
Wilfried Bony, F, Cote d'Ivoire ($14.00 vs Japan): Bony is a nice selection whether or not F Didier Drogba (groin) and M Yaya Touré (undisclosed) are in the lineup or not. If one or both play, there will be heavy marking of the two, leaving plenty of room for Bony to operate. If one or both are sidelined, Bony will see a heavier load and more strikes in the offensive end. Either way, he is a nice mid-level play.
Edinson Cavani, F, Uruguay ($19.00 vs Costa Rica): With F Luis Suárez (knee) all but ruled out of the starting grid, and perhaps ruled out completely for the opening match, Cavani will be the offense for Uruguay. At this price level he is worth a start against a CRC team that might be overmatched even with La Celeste playing without one of its big guns.
Keisuke Honda, M, Japan ($15.25 vs Cote d'Ivoire): Honda made his presence felt in a warm-up against Zambia, celebrating a pair of goals. Honda has a flair for the dramatic, earning Man of the Match twice in four games in South Africa. He can take advantage of a dinged up Cote d'Ivoire side.
Salomon Kalou, F, Cote d'Ivoire ($13.50 vs Japan): Kalou could be relied upon pretty heavily with the team's two biggest stars, Drogba and Touré potentially nicked up. Kalou could see more offensive responsibilities as a result.
Jackson Martínez, F, Colombia ($13.50 vs Greece): Martínez, who led FC Porto in scoring, is likely to be the biggest beneficiary of Radamel Falcao (knee) being sidelined. He'll be front and center in Colombia's offense. While Greece plays a lock-down style defense, and goals will be at a premium in this one, Martínez is a nice mid-level play with some upside.
Fernando Muslera, G, Uruguay ($25.25 vs Costa Rica): You'll need to pay through the nose for Muslera, but he is the keeper who has the best matchup, by far, of the four contests Saturday. CRC isn't on the same plane as Uruguay, and a clean sheet is not only likely, but expected.
Shinji Okazaki, F, Japan ($13.75 vs Cote d'Ivoire): Okazaki found the net eight times in 14 qualifiers, and he has the opportunity to get off to a good start against a banged-up Cote d'Ivoire club. He has a mid-level salary with plenty of offensive upside against an opponent his club could easily defeat.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos, D, Greece ($14.00 vs Colombia): Papastathopoulos is a player who moves up and down the pitch well, and he could pinch up for some chances at the offensive end. At the very least, the Greeks play a suffocating defense, and more than one total goal in this game will be a shock. Papastathopoulos has a really good chance at a clean sheet, and plenty of Fantasy points as a result.
Diego Forlán, F, Uruguay ($12.00 vs Costa Rica): Forlán is expected to draw the start and work the attack with Edinson Cavani. Forlán can be an impact player, and at this price level he is a great play. His inclusion into your lineup will allow salary flexibility at other positions.
ONES TO AVOID
Didier Drogba, F, Cote d'Ivoire: Drogba (groin) been dealing with a groin injury which required surgery, and his status less than 24 hours before the team's opener is up in the air. Avoid a potential zero.
Radamel Falcao, F, Colombia: Falcao (knee) is among the most expensive strikers on the board, but keep in mind he is OUT for the World Cup. Do not make a huge mistake.
Ricardo Montolivo, M, Italy: Montolivo (tibia) broke his leg in a warm-up against Ireland, and he is sidelined indefinitely.
Luis Suárez, F, Uruguay ($25.50 vs Costa Rica): Suárez (knee) is one of the most talented strikers in the world, but apparently he is not fully recovered from his knee surgery and he is not expected to start vs Costa Rica. However, he has not been ruled out from playing in the match. Still, his salary is WAY too high for a potential part-time player or one who might end up with a zero.
Yaya Touré, M, Cote d'Ivoire: Touré had been dealing with fatigue and an undisclosed injury, and there are plenty of questions whether he'll be in the lineup against Colombia. His inclusion is a HUGE deal for The Elephants, but for Fantasy owners, it is a good idea to wait to see if and how he plays before choosing him for future Fantasy games.
