THE NL WEST HAS MANY GREAT LATE-NIGHT DAILY FANTASY PLAYS SATURDAY
For Saturday, July 13, there are 11 evening games in Major League Baseball, including the second half of the Chicago White Sox-Philadelphia doubleheader (8:05pm ET). The Colorado-L.A. Dodgers, N.Y. Mets-Pittsburgh, St. Louis-Chicago Cubs, Texas-Detroit and Washington-Miami (7:15pm ET) game is nationally/regionally televised on FOX.
Great news for daily Fantasy owners. There are ZERO weather concerns for the evening contests on Saturday after a bit of a sloppy forecast for the early games. All Major League Baseball cities have a 20 percent chance of precipitation or less for the late games.
THESE 10 WILL BE PERFECT
Tyler Chatwood, SP, COL (@LAD - $6000 DK, $9554 Dst): A lot has been made about Chatwood's splits this season, home vs. road, but it is worth mentioning again. At home, he is 2-1 with a 4.01 ERA in six starts. On the road, he is 3-1 with an ace-like 1.26 ERA over five starts. Check out the information on his opposition, Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke ($10100 DK, $13251 Dst), and Chatwood is a very intriguing option.
Jose Fernandez, SP, MIA (WAS - $7400 DK, $14573 Dst): Fernandez sure loves being in the 'La Cocina' known as Marlins Park, for a little home cooking. He is 2-5 with a 4.17 ERA in nine road starts, but 3-0 with a 1.47 ERA in eight home outings, holding the opposition to a .172 average while striking out 47 batters over 49 innings.
Carlos Gonzalez, OF, COL (@LAD - $5000DK, $11116 Dst): CarGo (finger) has been dealing with pesky finger injury lately, but it hasn't looked to be a major concern. He is 6-for-14 (.429) with a double, triple, two homers and four RBI over his career against Greinke over his career, which equates to a 1.538 OPS. Play CarGo!
Alex Gordon, OF, KC (@CLE - $4300 DK, $6721 Dst): Gordon has fared well in lefty-on-lefty matchups this season, hitting .359 (37-for-103) with four homers, 18 RBI and 11 total extra -base hits (XBH) in just 103 at-bats. Gordon has fared very well against Cleveland Indians SP Scott Kazmir ($7400 DK, $10549 Dst) over his career, too, going 5-for-16 (.313) with two doubles and an RBI. Ignore the fact he is 0-for-15 at Progressive Field this season. That will change in a hurry.
Chase Headley, 3B, SD (SF - $3900 DK - $5841 Dst): Headley has posted some impressive numbers against San Francisco Giants SP Tim Lincecum ($9500 DK, $13372 Dst), and a lot of that damage came when Lincecum was actually good. Headley is 11-for-40 (.275) with three doubles, three homers and a .923 OPS against the long-locked pitcher from Washington state.
Raul Ibanez, OF, SEA (LAA - $3600 DK, $7314 Dst): The 41-year-old Ibanez keeps on chugging, showing bursts of power. He might flex a little muscle against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver ($8000 DK, $16182 Dst) Saturday. Ibanez is 14-for-30 (.467) iwth two doubles, four homers, seven RBI, six walks and a 1.489 OPS in his career against Weaver.
Jon Lester, SP, BOS (@OAK - $8700 DK, $11853 Dst): Lester is a slightly more expensive option, but he has had some nice success against the Oakland Athletics over the years. He is 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA in three starts against the Athletics since the start of the 2010 season.
A.J. Pierzynski, C, TEX (@DET - $3300 DK, $5424 Dst): Pierzynski has pretty favorable numbers over his career against Detroit Tigers SP Max Scherzer ($11500 DK, $18496 Dst), going 10-for-31 (.323) with a triple, homer, five RBI and a respectable .806 OPS. Might be a nice mid-level salary relief option.
Mike Trout, OF, LAA (@SEA - $5300 DK, $10275 Dst): Trout hasn't been intimidated by Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez ($10900 DK, $18084 Dst) over his career, batting .467 (14-for-30) against King Felix with two doubles, a triple, a home run, nine RBI and a 1.155 OPS all-time.
Mark Trumbo, 1B/OF, LAA (@SEA - $4300 DK, $5,987 Dst): Trumbo is 10-for-33 (.303) with three bombs, nine RBI and an .899 OPS. Beware, he has 12 strikeouts against King Felix, but the power potential outweighs the whiffs.
THESE 10 WILL BE IMPERFECT
Yonder Alonso, 1B/OF, SD (SF - $3500 DK, $N/A Dst): Alonso is fresh off the 15-day disabled list, but he shouldn't be used as a sleeper. He is 2-for-17 (.118) lifetime with no XBH and six strikeouts against Lincecum.
Elvis Andrus, SS, TEX (@DET - $3600 DK, $5330 Dst): Andrus has shown some signs of life at the plate lately, getting his season average up around the .250 mark. However, he should be held down by by Scherzer, as Andrus is just 3-for-18 (.167) with no extra-base hits and a .417 OPS in his career against the Tigers' hurler.
Carlos Beltran, OF, STL (@CHC - $5000 DK, $7036 Dst): It isn't a great sample size, but Beltran is hitless in seven career at-bats against Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza ($8900 DK, $15270 Dst). There are better risks elsewhere.
Zack Greinke, SP, LAD (COL - $10100 DK, $13251 Dst): Greinke is one of the more expensive options on the board, but he has not fared well against the Colorado Rockies over the years. He is 1-0 against the Rockies this season, but he has a 7.84 ERA over 10 1/3 innings with 10 walks and just seven strikeouts while the Rox are batting .357 against him. He is 1-1 with a 6.16 ERA in six starts against the Rockies since the start of the 2010 season.
Josh Hamilton, OF, LAA (@SEA - $3600 DK, $7247 Dst): BroHam has not enjoyed success in his first season, and there won't be a turnaround Saturday. He is a lifetime .151 (8-for-53) hitter against King Felix with just four XBH and a whopping 16 strikeouts.
Scott Kazmir, SP, CLE (KC - $7400 DK, $10549 Dst): Kazmir is generally not recommended any time, but especially at these prices. He is 0-1 with 4.50 ERA in two starts against the Royals over 10 innings, allowing five earned runs, 11 hits and a .275 opponent batting average this season against K.C.
Hunter Pence, OF, SF (@SD - $4000 DK, $6694 Dst): San Diego Padres SP Edinson Volquez ($7200 DK, $9938 Dst) has really had Pence's number over the years. Pence is just 4-for-28 (.143) with 14 strikeouts and a .594 OPS lifetime against the Padres' ace.
Kyle Seager, 2B/3B, SEA (LAA - $4100 DK, $8563 Dst): Seager hasn't had a whole lot of success in his career against Weaver, going just 1-for-9 (.111) with a double, one RBI, three strikeouts and a mediocre .495 OPS.
Alfonso Soriano, OF, CHC (STL - $4800 DK, $8069 Dst): Soriano has an impressive average over his career against St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn ($9100 DK, $14627 Dst), but his overall numbers aren't that great. Sori is 6-for-19 (.316) against Lynn, but he has only one double, one RBI and eight strikeouts, and an overall .684 OPS. There are better options on the board for less money.
David Wright, 3B, NYM (@PIT - $4800 DK, $7540 Dst): 'Captain America' has had a difficult time against Pittsburgh Pirates SP A.J. Burnett ($10500 DK, $14858 Dst) over the years, going just 3-for-18 (.167) with just one XBH (a double), four RBI and eight strikeouts. That's good for a rather marginal .460 OPS. Avoid.
