SO YOU WANT A BIG TICKET ITEM?
Taylor Hall, LW, Edmonton ($8600 vs BOS): Hall's team might not be playing so hot lately, but Hall certainly has been on fire. Over his past nine games, Hall has popped in six goals with 13 points and a plus-2 rating. He also has 38 shots on goal (SOG) during the span, making him a very attractive Fantasy play, regardless of opponent.
If you spend big up top, you're going to need some fillers to bring down your average per player salary. Check out these steals from the bargain bin:
Brian Elliott, G, St. Louis ($6700 vs TOR): Vegas has the Blues installed as a heavy home favorite, and that bodes well for Elliott's Fantasy appeal since he is tabbed as the starting netminder. He won his last time out, and has allowed exactly one goal in four of his past five outings.
Mike Smith, G, Phoenix ($7200 vs NYI): Smith (flu) is expected to be back in between the pipes Thursday after dealing with a bout with the flu. Smith faces a favorable matchup against an Islanders team which has given up the second-most goals in the NHL. That means he'll get plenty of offensive support, even if he isn't on top of his game.
Eric Staal, C, Carolina ($5700 at CGY): For whatever reason, Staal's salary is way down there. Over the past 21 days, he has managed three goals, nine assists and a plus-1 rating with eight SOG in 11 games. A better than point-per-game clip, and a mid-level salary. Sign me up, especially against a porous Calgary team.
Aaron Rome, D, Dallas ($3000 at NSH): Rome (hip, lower-body) has been activated from Injured Reserve, and will make his regular season debut in Nashville. Look, he isn't going to roll up huge Fantasy points, but adding him to your roster will allow you to spend heavily elsewhere.
Andrej Sekera, D, Carolina ($4200 at CGY): Another underrated Hurricanes player like Staal. Sekera has posted four goals, six assist and a whopping plus-10 rating over his past nine games. What's not to like, especially at this low salary?
Mats Zuccarello, LW, N.Y. Rangers ($4800 vs CLS): The Norwegian has been on fire lately, posting four goals with 10 points and a plus-1 rating in 11 games.
