TUESDAY PRE-GAME DAILY FANTASY UPDATE
Here are some mid/late afternoon updates from the world of baseball to help you finalize your daily Fantasy Baseball roster for Tuesday, April 9. (DraftKings.com salaries in parentheses)
CHICAGO WHITE SOX
Former Nationals 1B Adam Dunn ($3,800) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game at Washington in a National League park since there is no designated hitter spot available. 1B Paul Konerko ($4,500) gets the nod at first base, and Dunn will be a late-innings option off the bench for manager Robin Ventura. By the way, Konerko is 1-for-12 (.083) lifetime against Nats SP Gio Gonzalez ($10,500), so you might want to keep Konerko out of your daily Fantasy lineup, too.
C Carlos Santana (thumb) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees. Reserve him immediately. He suffered a bruised left thumb in Monday's game. The good news is that his injury is of the day-to-day variety, as X-rays were negative. With Santana out of the lineup, C Yan Gomes will get the nod behind the plate. He bats ninth in manager Terry Francona's lineup.
OF Michael Bourn is getting a day off, so you'll want to have him reserved. If you're looking for a daily value, consider 2B/OF Ryan Raburn ($2,500), who is second base and outfield eligible. He makes the start in right field, with OF Drew Stubbs ($3,100).
SS Jean Segura (quadriceps) missed Monday's series opener at Chicago Cubs due to his bruised left quadriceps muscle, but he is back in the starting lineup for manager Ron Roenicke. Segura has never faced SP Travis Wood ($5,000), but he is batting a robust .450 (9-for-20) on the season. Segura is a nice, cheap option at $3,300.
OF Carlos Gomez ($3,900) has had his trouble against Wood, going just 2-for-12 (.167) with four strikeouts. Even though one of those hits was good for a solo home run, Gomez isn't worth starting.
NEW YORK METS
Manager Terry Collins has decided to sit 1B Ike Davis ($4,300) against Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee ($11,900). Davis is just 1-for-11 (.091) in his career against Lee with four punchouts, so it makes sense. 2B Justin Turner ($3,200) slides over to first base, but is only eligible at second base in most daily Fantasy formats.
3B David Wright ($4,500) has a .286 career average (6-for-21) against Lee, but just one extra-base hit (a double), three RBI and seven strikeouts. You can likely do better elsewhere.
We liked C John Buck ($3,000) in today's earlier blog, and like him even more that he is batting cleanup in T.C.'s lineup tonight. Buck is 14-for-48 (.292) lifetime against Lee, with three doubles, three homers and eight RBI. He does have six walks and 15 strikeouts, but his .912 OPS makes him an attractive, and cheap, pick.
1B Adam LaRoche ($4,100) (back) is back in the lineup for manager Davey Johnson, as expected. He sat Saturday and Sunday after leaving Friday's game, but apparently missing two games and the day off Monday did him good. He is 4-for-11 (.364) with two homers and five RBI lifetime against Chicago White Sox SP Jake Peavy ($9,500).
