Use Johnny Football in preseason DFS Saturday
It's the first full weekend of preseason NFL football, and there are four games Saturday, Aug. 9. Why not practice up for the regular season with Daily Fantasy games. The preseason can be a little tricky, and some stud Fantasy options you normally use in the regular season won't have nearly the same kind of value. It is challenging, and fun at the same time. Enjoy!
7:30pm Cleveland at Detroit (NFL Network)
(DraftDay.com salaries in parentheses) (all times ET)
Johnny Manziel, QB, Cleveland ($7800 at Detroit): Perhaps you have heard once or 5,000 times on ESPN or NFL Network that 'Johnny Football' will make his preseason debut in Saturday's game. Starting him in Daily Fantasy is not buying into the hype, it is buying into the fact he is likely to get some considerable run. He'll come off the bench with QB Brian Hoyer ($5000) (knee) starting. Hoyer will likely play a limited amount since this is his first game back from a torn ACL which ended his 2013 season. Look for the rookie to play an extended period and to have the most Fantasy appeal of all Cleveland QBs Saturday, if not the most value of any QB on the board in all four games.
Edwin Baker, RB, Cleveland ($5000 at Detroit): Baker has been impressive in the preseason before, and when given the chance to play in the regular season he has made the most of his opportunities. Look for Baker to get perhaps 10-15 touches in this game, making him a nice Daily Fantasy play at a minimum salary.
Maikon Bonani, PK, Tennessee ($2500 vs Green Bay): The Nashville Tennessean reports Bonani is considered the favorite in the camp battle with PK Travis Coons ($6700). As such, expect Bonani to get a decent look in key situations Saturday.
Joseph Fauria, TE, Detroit ($3000 vs Cleveland): The second-year tight end has been splitting time with the first- and second-team offenses in Detroit. With rookie TE Eric Ebron (undisclosed) likely to be inactive due to an undisclosed injury, Fauria should get plenty of time to shine.
Matt Flynn, QB, Green Bay ($5000 at Tennessee): Flynn is likely to see plenty of action off the bench, with starting QB Aaron Rodgers ($15300) only expected to make a cameo in the preseason opener. If you do not trust Manziel above, Flynn is an attractive option at a minimum salary.
Willie Snead, WR, Cleveland ($3000 at Detroit): Snead, a rookie out of Ball State, has reportedly been turning heads at camp. He will likely see an extended amount of time as the team wants to see whether or not he has a future with the team with a muddled receiver picture.
Texans defense ($2000 at Arizona): Daily Fantasy defenses are rather interchangeable, especially during the preseason. Hey, at least you can start the defense with rookie Jadeveon Clowney, and the Texans could surprise.
