USE PLENTY OF HURRICANES, ISLANDERS IN DAILY PLAY THURSDAY
There are 11 games in the National Hockey League Thursday, Nov. 7. The Montreal-Ottawa (7:00pm ET) game is nationally televised in Canada on CBC. The N.Y. Rangers-Columbus (7:00pm ET) game is nationally television in Canada and the United States on NHL Network.
I am excited, as I'll be taking, perhaps pound-for-pound, the biggest Carolina Hurricanes fan to Thursday's game against the New York Islanders. My three-year-old can't get enough of hockey, and the Hurricanes. In fact, all summer he asked when hockey season starts. I told him when it turns cooler and the leaves start to change. When he saw the leaves changing color here in North Carolina, he has this saying, "When the leaves change colors, it's time for hockey, dada!" We already hit one game, and if our luck over the past 10 games or so is any indication, maybe stack with Islanders. We saw the Phoenix Coyotes pound the Hurricanes earlier this season, and several teams, including the lowly Florida Panthers, take care of the Canes last season. That's unofficial analysis, but I am telling you, we're bad luck for the home team.
In all seriousness, my lineup below includes quite a few Hurricanes and Islanders. The Carolina players are great bargains because of their upside, and low salary, and the Islanders are great options because they have been absolutely on fire offensively.

THESE EIGHT COULD BE GREAT
Reto Berra, G, Calgary ($14463 at STL): If you're looking to save quite a bit of salary, Berra might be your man. He is projected to start Thursday in St. Louis, but facing a quality opponent on the road might be a tall order for the youngster.
Kevin Bieksa, D, Vancouver ($6276 at SJ): Bieksa has a big, fat goose egg through 17 games, but he does have six assists, a plus-10 rating and 29 blocked shots. He will get you Fantasy points, even if he isn't throwing rubber in the back of the net.
Brian Elliott, G, St. Louis ($19715 vs CGY): Elliott is expected to start between the pipes Thursday against the Flames, and facing an inferior opponent at home could net nice Fantasy results.
Andrew MacDonald, D, N.Y. Islanders ($8650 at CAR): MacDonald has managed just five total points in 15 games, and is not known as much of an offensive threat. However, he has 10 penalty minutes (PIM), 20 shots on goal (SOG) and 55 blocked shots, which can really help Fantasy owners looking for a cheap, but productive option.
Kyle Okposo, RW, N.Y. Islanders ($14796 at CAR): Okposo has pieced together three straight multi-point games, posting a goal with six assists and a plus-4 rating in three games in November. The hot play could continue, as he had a goal, assist and plus-1 rating in 22:59 of time on ice (TOI) against Carolina back on Oct. 19.
Alexander Semin, RW, Carolina ($7943 vs NYI): Semin has been a bit of a disappointment, posting just three goals with a minus-4 rating in 15 games. But that's what makes him an attractive play. He has plenty of offensive upside, and he comes with a mid-level salary.
John Tavares, C, N.Y. Islanders ($14456 at CAR): Tavares skated into Raleigh with a three-game goal-scoring streak in tow. He and Okposo have really jelled nicely to kick off the month of November. He had an assist, two PIM and two SOG in the earlier meeting with the Hurricanes in a season-high 23:34 of TOI. He has at least one point in 13 of his past 14 games.
Chris Terry, C, Carolina ($N/A vs NYI): Terry was summoned from Charlotte of the AHL Wednesday. The leading scorer for the Checkers posted six goals and four assists in 10 games in the AHL. The Canes are hoping he'll give them a little offensive injection. If your Fantasy provider includes Terry for selection, he is a low-salary Fantasy option with plenty of upside. He had one goal in three games with Carolina last season.
Johan Franzen, LW, Detroit ($5151 vs DAL): Franzen (illness) has been ruled out for Thursday's game, according to MLive.com, so obviously he should be avoided.
