(DraftDay.com salaries in parentheses)
Don't worry Fantasy owners and Orioles fans, 1B Chris Davis (flu) isn't being trade. He is sidelined for a second straight game due to flu-like symptoms. 1B-OF Steve Pearce ($7500) gets the start at first base in his absence, and he will bat fifth. Pearce is a nice addition to most Daily Fantasy lineups, and he can play be slotted in multiple positions. OF David Lough ($5000) makes a start in left field, batting seventh. He is a nice salary saver, if you want to spread more money across other positions.
Indians C-3B Carlos Santana ($11750) is at first base again tonight, a place he has mostly been playing this summer. There is good reason, too. Where he plays on the diamond has correlated to success at the plate, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. Santana is hitting .338 with 15 of his 20 home runs in 43 games playing first base this season. When he has played third base, he has hit a paltry .129 in 26 games, and he is just 3-for-34 (.088) in 11 games when playing behind the plate. He hasn't appeared anywhere except first base since May 25, and for good reason.
Tigers SS Eugenio Suarez (back) is out of the lineup Wednesday after leaving Tuesday's game early due to a tight back. SS-3B Andrew Romine ($6100) gets the start at shortstop, batting in the ninth spot. ... 3B-OF Nick Castellanos ($5800) (finger) is also back in the starting lineup after missing some time. He plays third and bats seventh.
Twins OF Josh Willingham ($9000) is in the lineup, for now, but he is listed as the designated hitter to give manager Ron Gardenhire options in case a trade is made and Willingham is a late scratch. Daily Fantasy owners would do well to avoid 'The Hammer', who could be on his way to the Seattle Mariners before the non-waiver trade deadline, or another destination. ... C Kurt Suzuki ($6350) is another player who has had his name bandied about in trade rumors for a while now. It might be best to avoid him, too.
NEW YORK YANKEES
Yankees C Francisco Cervelli ($6600) is back in the starting lineup after a night of rest. He carries a 10-game hitting streak into play, going 12-for-34 (.353) with a shomer, two RBI and five runs scored during the stretch. If you need a cheap backstop, Cervelli could be your man. ... With 1B Mark Teixeira ($9250) in the lineup, and OF Carlos Beltran ($8850) occupying the designated hitter spot, C Brian McCann (rest) is the odd-man out Wednesday. ... OF Zoilo Almonte ($5000) makes another start, his second since his latest recall from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He bats eight and plays right field.
The Mariners have a pair of bargain basement outfielders in their starting nine Wednesday. OF Endy Chavez ($5000) is in right field and batting out of the two-hole, while OF James Jones ($5000) is in center field and batting ninth. Chavez has a little more Daily Fantasy upside, and he'll likely see at least one more at-bat. If you need to save salary, remember Chavez (or Jones). ... 1B-OF Logan Morrison ($5650) is also in the starting lineup, playing first base and batting sixth.
