Braves SP Alex Wood ($17150) will be facing a lineup of Washington Nationals consisting mostly of backups (see below), as they rest their starters following the clinching of the NL East Division title. ... C-OF Evan Gattis (illness) is sidelined due to strep throat, however.
The Orioles clinched the American League East Division title Tuesday, and their regulars are mostly getting a rest Wednesday. While OF Adam Jones ($9500) and OF Nelson Cruz ($11250) get starts, and 1B-OF Steve Pearce ($8850) is also in there, OF Nick Markakis is resting, as is 2B-3B Ryan Flaherty and 1B-3B Kelly Johnson.
Cubs SP Kyle Kendricks ($13400) is a solid value at this price level, facing a Cincinnati Reds lineup with mostly reserves, as manager Bryan Price has benched his regulars due to poor performance (see below). ... 2B-OF Arismendy Alcantara (wrist) is sidelined again, but hopeful of playing Thursday.
Reds skipper Bryan Price has shaken up his lineup after a lackluster performance in the first two games against the Chicago Cubs. Regulars OF Jay Bruce, 3B Todd Frazier, OF Billy Hamilton, C Devin Mesoraco and 2B Brandon Phillips are all gathering some pine with youngsters C Tucker Barnhart ($5000), 2B-SS Jake Elmore ($5000), 1B-OF Donald Lutz ($5000), Yorman Rodriguez ($5000) and veteran INF Ramon Santiago ($6000) getting starts.
Tigers 3B-OF Nick Castellanos ($6150) (foot) is in the starting lineup after missing one game with a left foot ailment. However, C Alex Avila (head) is sidelined after being smacked in the catcher's mask by a foul tip, so C Bryan Holaday ($5450) gets the nod behind the dish.
Twins SS Eduardo Escobar (shoulder) left Tuesday's game, and is sidelined Wednesday. Veteran SS-3B Eduardo Nunez ($6650) slides into the lineup in his absence. ... 1B Kennys Vargas ($5950) has launched 16 homers this season, including Tuesday's game, yet his DFS salary remains tremendously low.
NEW YORK METS
Mets OF Juan Lagares (elbow) is expected to miss a few games, according to manager Terry Collins. With Lagares sidelined Wednesday, TC is going with OF Kirk Neuwenhuis ($6900) in center field. He isn't a terrible play if you're looking for a low-end outfielder to help save salary for other positions.
NEW YORK YANKEES
Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira ($8350) (wrist) is back in the starting lineup Wednesday at Tampa Bay, and he is batting in the cleanup spot. At this mid-level price, and such an advantageous spot in the lineup, he isn't a terrible play when healthy. ... OF Carlos Beltran (personal) is away from the team on a personal family issue.
Athletics C Derek Norris ($6850) gets the start at designated hitter, while C Geovany Soto ($5000) gets a crack against his former team, the Texas Rangers, while starting behind the plate. Soto is an attractive low-priced option with an added side of vengeance.
Pirates SS Jordy Mercer (back) will miss a second consecutive game due to a tight back. SS Clint Barmes ($5350) will once again fill in, but he gives you absolutely zip in offense most nights. Using him is strictly to punt the spot and save salary for other areas.
Like the Orioles, the Nats are basking in the glow of clinching their division crown Tuesday night. Regulars are sitting, including SS Ian Desmond, OF Bryce Harper, 1B Adam LaRoche, C Wilson Ramos and 2B-3B Anthony Rendon. C Sandy Leon ($5000) does the catching, and he has a minimum DFS salary, and 2B-OF Kevin Frandsen ($5000) is also in the lineup. OF Jeff Kobernus ($5450) gets a look at second base, while OF Steven Souza Jr. ($5000) is in the mix as well.
