WEDNESDAY’S PRE-GAME DAILY FANTASY UPDATE
I just got back from watching Tampa Bay Rays prospect OF Wil Myers and the Triple-A Durham Bulls sweep the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves and SP Sean Gilmartin. It is a matter of when, not if, Myers comes up to the Rays this season and produces. The Rays have quite a bit of other talent there, too.
Anyway, let's get down to business for Wednesday's games. (DraftKings.com salaries listed in parentheses)
SP Jake Arrieta ($7,500) has had very little success in his career against the Boston Red Sox, going 0-3 with a 6.00 ERA over 24 innings in five appearances (four starts). He has walked eight batters, struck out 14 and served up six homers. The Red Sox are collectively hitting .313 against Arrieta.
BOSTON RED SOX
OF Daniel Nava ($3,600) gets the nod as the designated hitter Wednesday, batting sixth. He has three career hits in five at-bats against Arrieta, including a solo home run.
CHICAGO CUBS-MILWAUKEE BREWERS
Wednesday's game between the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers has been officially postponed due to rain, and there is no makeup date yet available.
OF Michael Bourn ($4,400) is back atop the lineup against the New York Yankees for manager Terry Francona after getting a day off to rest Tuesday. Bourn has just three at-bats in his career against probable SP Ivan Nova ($5,300), and he is 1-for-3 with two strikeouts. The Indians will use SP Corey Kluber to start, as scheduled SP Brett Myers was needed in long relief Tuesday. 1B Mark Reynolds ($3,900), who will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth Wednesday, is just 3-for-15 (.200) with two doubles, no homers, two RBI, three walks and five strikeouts in his career against Nova.
Astros 1B Carlos Pena ($3,900) is the only player on the Houston roster to have faced Seattle Mariners SP Blake Beavan ($2,900). He has just one hit in nine career at-bats (.111) with one strikeout. Pena is batting fifth and serving as the designated hitter in manager Bo Porter's lineup Wednesday.
LOS ANGELES ANGELS OF ANAHEIM
3B/SS Brendan Harris ($2,100) is in the starting lineup, batting seventh and starting at shortstop. SS Erick Aybar (heel) left Tuesday's game due to a left heel contusion, and is not starting Wednesday. Harris doesn't have a big bat, but he could save you plenty of salary elsehwere.
NEW YORK METS
1B Ike Davis ($4,300) is back in the starting lineup for manager Terry Collins. He was given the day off Tuesday with a difficult matchup and poor history against Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee. Davis is 4-for-16 (.250) with two doubles, two walks and an RBI lifetime against Philllies SP Kyle Kendrick ($7,000). 2B/OF Jordany Valdespin ($3,800) is batting leadoff and starting in center field, and he could be a cheap option if you want to go heavy in other areas, especially pitching.
NEW YORK YANKEES
OF Ichiro Suzuki ($4,300) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game in Cleveland. 1B/DH Travis Hafner ($3,800), who hit his 100th home run at Progressive Field in the series opener, will be the designated hitter and hit third. OF Brennan Boesch ($3,600) gets the starting nod in right field, and he mans right field.
3B Eric Sogard ($3,200) is expected to be the team's regular second baseman with 2B Scott Sizemore (sprained left knee) hitting the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. He can pile up the hits in bunches, and had a really nice spring. He won't give you much in power, but he will allow you to use extra salary elsewhere. OF Coco Crisp ($4,900) hasn't had any success against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim probable SP Joe Blanton ($8,800) in his career. Covelli is just 2-for-15 (.133) with a double, one walk and three strikeouts in his career against Blanton.
Kendrick takes the hill against the New York Mets, but he isn't a recommended Fantasy play despite a tempting mid-level salary. He is just 3-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 13 appearances (seven starts) over 53 2/3 innings since 2010 against the Mets.
