Vernon Davis was traded to Denver Monday, and most are proclaiming the former elite TE, "BACK!!!" Calm down. While Davis is an upgrade over Virgil Green and the corpse of Owen Daniels, this isn't 2007, hell, it's not even 2013, a shift from Colin Kaepernick to Peyton Manning isn't that significant. Of 35 eligible QBs this season, Manning is 34th in Fantasy points per drop back (Kaepernick is 22nd); Denver's only scored 14 offense TDs, and just seven through the air. Where does the "upside" come in? Sure, there's an void for the "Julius Thomas role" that was vacated when he bolted for Jacksonville, and maybe Davis goes on a crazy TD binge, but does that "role" even exist that this point? It doesn't appear that way. Davis will carry more name value than actual value, so, selling high if you already have him is a better option than picking him up. In deeper leagues, grabbing Davis to see what happens is fine, but in 12-team leagues, or smaller, leave him for someone else to waste a waiver claim or FAAB money.
There is another option, though. Since he has such name value among casual fans, picking him up, praying he scores a TD this week and selling super high is a possibility if you have the bench room. Treat HEY VERN as a volatile asset that could become super valuable on the open market quickly, allowing you to flip him immediately for a player that makes your team better. Just don't get attached. Now's the time to and recoup value on your Denver Players.
Just remember this mantra: If Jordan Reed isn’t hurt, own him and play him. It’s truly that simple.
Heath Miller’s stats came back to life with the return of Ben Roethlisberger, AND NOW he draws THEE premier match up of Week 9 against the Raiders, who, after giving up a TD to Kellen Davis (Yes, he's STILL ALIVE!!!), have allowed eight TDs to tight ends in seven games.
Charles Clay returns from London with the expectation that Tyrod Taylor will be back in uniform. Since the status’ of Percy Harvin and Sammy Watkins are up in the air, Clay, with Robert Woods would be Buffalo’s primary receiving options.
