Grace was awesome at the Memorial Tournament last week, but now he’s opting for a week of rest with the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines coming up next week.
Grace gained +1.49 strokes putting and +1.34 strokes on approach last week, but he also didn’t lose any strokes in any of the four major categories. When your metrics look that good, great things tend to happen, evidenced by his fourth-place finish.
While he looked solid last week, Grace ranks 113th and 114th over his last 50 rounds in Strokes Gained: Approach and Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee among Data Golf’s top 150 golfers.
He’ll need to drastically improve upon his approach metrics if he wants to contend at the U.S. Open. In his eight U.S. Open appearances, Grace has made five cuts with two top-five finishes.
