Chris Doyle, Jaguar’s director of sports performance, has resigned. Doyle was a controversial hire by new head coach Urban Meyer. He left the University of Iowa after being accused of making racist comments, taunting players, and using bullying tactics. This move happened just a few hours after the Fritz Pollard Alliance heavily criticized the Jaguars’ hiring.
This move seemed to be inevitable as soon as the ink was dry on the contract. Some might wonder what Meyer was thinking by hiring a person with such a checkered past. Some criticized the hiring of Meyer himself as he was put on administrative leave and eventually suspended by Ohio State University in 2018 after it was found out that he knew about spousal abuse allegations against one of his coaches. This is not how the Jaguars wanted an offseason in which they have the first overall draft pick to start.
The Jaguars are in a significant rebuild, and only the bravest of fans would think they have a chance to compete next season. The Jags are +8000 to win the Super Bowl next season, +4400 to win the AFC, and +1600 to win the AFC South.
