Dario Saric Among Phoenix Suns’ Bench Players Out Monday
January 17Grant WhiteSportsGrid
The Phoenix Suns could be shorthanded when they tip-off against the Memphis Grizzlies Monday afternoon. Duane Rankin reports that Dario Saric, Damian Jones and Jalen Smith are all out due to health and safety protocols while Cameron Payne is questionable with an ankle injury.
Saric and Payne are the most productive of the four bench players listed on the injury report. Saric has averaged 10.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist over nine games, while Payne has gone off for 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists in seven games.
The Suns’ depleted frontcourt leaves Deandre Ayton as a potential workhorse on Monday afternoon. Ayton has been mired in an early-season slump. He’s averaging almost six fewer points per game than last season and has failed to eclipse double-digit points on four occasions. Ayton’s path to the basket will be made easier by Jonas Valanciunas’ absence tomorrow. The Grizz will be without their starting centre and primary defender, as he is also out due to health and safety protocols.
