DeShaun Watson Wants out of Houston Regardless of New Head Coach

The Texans are desperately trying to repair their relationship with Watson, but it seems as though that is not possible at this point. ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reports that Watson wants out of Houston regardless of who they choose to hire as head coach. Jim Caldwell and Josh McCown were recently brought in to interview for the position, and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy remains an option as well. Watson was reportedly unhappy that the Texans omitted Bienemy in their first round of interviews, but they have brought him in since then.
The Jets and Dolphins have emerged as two of Watson’s top choices, and both teams can put together appealing trade packages for the stud quarterback. The Jets own the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft, and they also own the Seahawks’ first-round picks in the next two drafts. Sam Darnold could also be an intriguing replacement quarterback option for the Texans. The Dolphins have the No. 3 pick in the upcoming draft and a potential franchise quarterback to send back to the Texans in Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa wasn’t particularly impressive in limited playing time this season, but he was widely considered an elite quarterback prospect during his time at Alabama.
