Winter Meetings: 2017 Fantasy Baseball First-Round Mock Draft

  • David Gonos

The 2016 Winter Meetings are being held from Dec. 4 to 8 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.

But before they wrap up, and before dozens of players end up on different ballclubs, we thought we’d share who we thought would be picked among the first 12 picks of a Fantasy Baseball draft.

During last year’s winter meetings, we saw several pretty big transactions go down, including the Diamondbacks acquiring Shelby Miller in a trade with the Braves for a package that included RHP Aaron Blair and SS Dansby Swanson. (This came after they finalized a $206.5 million deal with Zack Greinke.)

Let’s also not forget that Ben Zobrist left the 2015 World Series Champion Kansas City Royals as a free agent to reunite with manage Joe Maddon in Chicago, and becoming the 2016 World Series MVP with the Cubs!

The Brewers traded Adam Lind to Seattle, and Houston traded three prospects to the Phillies for closer Ken Giles.

While none of those deals really affected the first round of 2016 Fantasy Baseball drafts, you never know when a blockbuster will go down that suddenly takes a slugger on a slug of a team and places him in the middle of a juggernaut offense.

These Fantasy picks are for standard Rotisserie drafts in 12-team leagues for 2017, and players need 20 games played at a position in 2016 to gain eligibility there for 2017.
