Gardner Minshew Not a Lock to Start Sunday vs. Bears
Minshew returned to the starting lineup last week vs. the Ravens, but his performance was apparently not good enough to guarantee another start this week vs. the Bears. He finished with 226 yards, two passing touchdowns, and zero interceptions – resulting in 15.94 FanDuel points – but he was sacked five times and also lost a fumble. Overall, Minshew was far from the biggest problem for the Jaguars vs. the Ravens, but they ultimately lost by 26 points.
Minshew has been splitting the practice reps at quarterback with Mike Glennon to start the week, and head coach Doug Marrone would not name a starting quarterback vs. the Bears. It seems as though whoever performs the best at practice this week will eventually get the nod.
Minshew has undoubtedly been the Jaguars’ best quarterback this season. He leads all of their passers in terms of adjusted yards per attempt, touchdown rate, and interception rate, and Glennon was benched after a dismal performance vs. the Titans two weeks ago. With that in mind, the fact that he’s in consideration to draw another start is a bit questionable. The Jaguars are in position to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft following the Jets’ win over the Rams last week, so winning is probably not their top priority.
The Jaguars are currently listed as 7.5-point home underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook, and it’s tough to trust any of their players in fantasy in what should be a difficult matchup. The Bears rank seventh in Football Outsiders’ defensive DVOA, and they rank inside the top 10 against both the run and the pass.
