Gardner Minshew will Start for Jaguars in Week 15
Minshew mania is officially back! He suffered a thumb injury back in Week 7, which caused him to miss five straight games for the Jaguars between Weeks 9 and 13. Jake Luton initially took over as the starting quarterback in Minshew’s absence, but he played so poorly that he was ultimately benched for Mike Glennon. Glennon held his own for two weeks, but he got benched for Minshew in Week 14 vs. the Titans.
Minshew is clearly the best quarterback option in Jacksonville at the moment. He’s posted an adjusted yards per attempt of 7.0 this season, which is drastically better than Glennon’s mark of 5.3 and Luton’s mark of 3.6. He also leads the trio in terms of touchdown rate and interception rate, so there is no excuse for Minshew not to be starting if he’s healthy.
His return should boost the fantasy value for all of the pass catchers in Jacksonville. D.J. Chark stands out as a potential buy-low option in DFS after posting just 10 catches for 98 yards over the past three weeks. He averaged 6.8 targets, five receptions, and 53 receiving yards per game through his first five games with Minshew this season, and he also scored three touchdowns over that time frame. Keelan Cole and Laviska Shenault could also provide some fantasy value after combining for 23 targets last week.
That said, there’s a real possibility that the last three weeks of the 2020 season will be the last three starts for Minshew as a member of the Jaguars. They’re currently sitting at just 1-11, which puts them in a prime position to select a new quarterback at the top of the NFL Draft. Even if they can’t secure the No. 1 pick and a shot at Trevor Lawrence – The Jets are still massive favorites for that honor – guys like Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, or Trey Lance would all be logical choices for a team looking for a franchise quarterback.
